Indonesia operates a single high-speed rail service between Jakarta, the country's capital and largest city, and Bandung, the third largest city. Its brand is Whoosh (an abbreviation of Waktu Hemat, Operasi Optimal, and Sistem Heban, which literally means “time-saving, work-optimized, and excellent system”) and is operated by Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC).
Whoosh is currently the only high-speed railway in Southeast Asia and the southern hemisphere. It has a total length of 143 kilometers (89 miles), a maximum operating speed of 350 kilometers per hour (220 miles per hour), and a train design speed of 420 kilometers per hour (260 miles KCIC400AF hours), making it the fastest commercially operated railway network in the world, juxtaposed with a few lines in China. The average travel time between the two cities is 45 minutes, which is lower than the 3 hours of the existing railway line.
